Pipe Logix Line Pipe Report – June 2022

(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices decreased by 1.3% in June with domestic prices down 1.8% and import prices down 0.8%.  In particular, domestic ERW prices were down 3.1%.  This marks the first price decrease in 21 months with a cumulative change of +178% since September 2020.  Distributor’s sentiment remains marginally bullish with the NASPD Index at 58 in June, down from a score of 67 the previous month. While most components of the sentiment index held steady, The Price Outlook decreased for the third month in a row and New Orders decreased to a neutral score of 54.  Shipment volumes were up 10% in May and have exceeded 100,000 tons for each of the trailing 3 months.  Drilling activity continues to increase with the rig count at 738 active rigs in June.  Oil prices averaged $115/bbl in June and natural gas averaged $8.7/mmbtu.  HRC prices have declined dramatically since Q3 2021 and are currently near pre-2021 levels.  The details are in the report.
