Germany’s regulation for using future supplies of carbon-free hydrogen on existing and new pipelines for natural gas should be undertaken jointly rather than separately, the chief executive of utility RWE said on Friday.
Only this approach would allow the industry “sensible and integrated planning,” Rolf Martin Schmitz said in a speech to be given to shareholders on April 28.
Berlin government wants a separate approach to prevent cross-subsidizing at the expense of consumers, but the gas industry says it needs more freedom to maneuver for green hydrogen to arrive.
