(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices are slightly higher in July with the Pipe Logix Index up 0.3% or $6/ton. Both domestic and import prices made slight gains. Domestic is up 0.2% with small gains in ERW prices partially offset by a decline in seamless prices. Import prices are up 0.4% with a 0.6% gain in ERW prices and a 0.3% gain in seamless prices. While this marks the 9th consecutive month of price gains, the rate of increases has slowed with domestic seamless prices staying relatively flat over the past 5 months. Sentiment is lower in July with the NASPD Index at 64 compared to 71 the previous month. Components to the sentiment index show inventory has increased but import volumes are expected to be lower in the coming months and prices are holding. The overall sentiment score continues to describe a market that is expanding, just at a slower rate than described in the previous six months. Reported line pipe supply is estimated to have been 221,000 tons in June, which is below the trailing average. The rig count is also slightly lower in July, the first decrease since November 2017.
