(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices increased $67/ton or 2.2% in February with gains in seamless prices more than offsetting declines in welded prices. The Pipe Logix Index is up 89% from a year ago. Distributor’s sentiment remains bullish with a score of 62 for the NASPD Index in February. Price expectations are nearly split with 50% expecting higher prices and 40% expecting lower prices, matching the price divergence of seamless and ERW products. Sentiment for Orders, Fulfillment, and Inventory remain little changed. Total supply of line pipe to US markets was 1 million tons in 2021, down 1% from the previous year. Import volumes increased 8% in 2021. The rig count continued to increase, up 6% in February, while the DUC well count dropped to a new low. HRC prices remain high relative to the long-term average but are down 40% from the peak in September 2021. Oil and gas prices are dramatically higher due to war in Ukraine. The details are in the report.
