The Pipe Logix Price Index has decreased each month since July 2018 for a cumulative decline of 24%. However, the average price for imported seamless products was nearly unchanged this month compared to the previous month with several imported seamless products realizing price gains. Distributor’s sentiment held steady in February with a NASPD Index score of 55. There were several offsetting changes to the components that make up this index score. The reported shipments of line pipe were 128,000 tons in December and expected to have been just slightly higher in January, around 134,000 tons, which is 66% lower than the 394,000 tons shipped in January 2019. The rig count was mostly unchanged in February but down 27% from the peak in December 2018. Oil and natural gas prices have weakened further, averaging $51/bbl and $1.9/mmbtu, respectively, in February. The details are in the report.
