(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices decreased 1.9% in December with prices for domestic items down 2.1% and prices for import items down 1.6%. That was the 5th consecutive month of price declines and a cumulative decline of 5.2%. However, December prices were still 21% higher than they were a year ago. Distributor’s sentiment fell again with the NASPD Index at 36 in December, which was down from 39 the previous month and down from the peak of 81 in February 2018. All components of the NASPD Index were lower in December except two. Reported import volumes, as published by the Commerce Department before the government furlough, suggests imports were little changed in November compared to the previous month. Drilling activity was unchanged with the rig count ending last year at 1,077 active rigs.
