(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices decreased 3.2% in September with domestic prices down 3.1% and import prices down 3.4%. Every item tracked by Pipe Logix except one, priced lower and several decreased by 5% or more. This is the 4th consecutive month of price declines and a cumulative decrease of 8% since May. Distributor sentiment remains neutral with the NASPD Index at 51 in September, little changed from the previous two months. Two components of the NASPD Index, Outlook for Prices and Import Volumes, portray deeply negative sentiment while the other five components are positive. Total US supply is estimated to have been 105,000 tons in August and has averaged 107,000 tons/month during the trailing 12 months, which is 48% higher compared to the previous period. Drilling activity was mostly steady in September while HRC price decreased 2%. Oil and gas prices are down 10% and 9%, respectively, in September, but remain elevated compared to a year ago.
