(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices are 0.5% lower in August with domestic prices down 0.9% and import prices down 0.1%. This ends 9 consecutive months of price gains, which totaled 29% through July. Distributor’s sentiment is also lower in August with the NASPD Index at 54, down from a peak of 81 in February. While still indicating an expanding market, several components of the NASPD Index have softened, particularly the price outlook and lead times for new order fulfillment. Reported import volumes are lower with July imports expected to have been 188,000 tons, below the trailing average of 198,000 tons per month and down 17% from a year ago. Rig count growth has stalled near 1,050 active rigs.
