(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices were up 3.5% in May with domestic prices up 2.4% and import prices up 4.8%. Compared to a year ago, prices were up 86% with the Pipe Logix Index netting gains of 5% or more in 6 of those months. Sentiment eased but remained bullish with the NASPD Index at 67 in May compared to 75 the previous month. Shipments of line pipe were over 110,000 tons in March but expected to have been below 90,000 tons in April with imports down 27%. HRC prices in May were down from peak prices in 2021 but remain elevated. The rig count increased 4% in May with oil price over $106/bbl and natural gas priced over $7.8/mmbtu.
