MSCI Metals Activity for July 2025 reveals signs of stabilization in North American metals shipments. While U.S. steel shipments fell 2.8% year-over-year, aluminum showed a slight uptick of 0.3%. Canadian service centers also saw a narrower decline in steel shipments at 1.5%, and aluminum shipments rose by 2.6%. These results mark a potential shift in momentum after months of broad-based contraction, particularly for aluminum products. U.S. Service Center Activity – U.S. service center steel shipments in July 2025 were -2.8% (seasonally adjusted) from July 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were 0.3% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024. Canadian Service Center Activity – Canadian service center steel shipments in July 2025 were -1.5% (seasonally adjusted) from July 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were 2.6% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024.
