The U.S. Census Bureau announced the June advance report on durable goods manufacturers’ shipments, inventories and orders: New Orders – New orders for manufactured durable goods in June, up three of the last four months, increased $1.1 billion or 0.3 percent to $334.8 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This followed a 4.0 percent May decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.6 percent. Excluding defense, new orders increased 0.3 percent. Computers and electronic products, up nine of the last ten months, led the increase, $0.9 billion or 3.1 percent to $31.1 billion. Shipments – Shipments of manufactured durable goods in June, up nine of the last ten months, increased $2.4 billion or 0.7 percent to $330.7 billion. This followed a 1.1 percent May increase. Computers and electronic products, up nine consecutive months, led the increase, $0.8 billion or 2.4 percent to $34.7 billion. Unfilled Orders – Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in June, up twenty-three of the last twenty-four months, increased $9.3 billion or 0.6 percent to $1,590.1 billion. This followed a 0.7 percent May increase. Transportation equipment, up ten of the last eleven months, led the increase, $4.1 billion or 0.4 percent to $1,002.4 billion. Inventories – Inventories of manufactured durable goods in June, up nine consecutive months, increased $2.0 billion or 0.3 percent to $602.0 billion. This followed a 0.1 percent May increase. Transportation equipment, up eight of the last nine months, led the increase, $0.6 billion or 0.3 percent to $190.6 billion. Capital Goods – Nondefense new orders for capital goods in June increased $1.2 billion or 1.2 percent to $97.8 billion. Shipments increased $1.4 billion or 1.5 percent to $95.0 billion. Unfilled orders increased $2.7 billion or 0.3 percent to $950.1 billion. Inventories increased $0.6 billion or 0.2 percent to $252.4 billion. Defense new orders for capital goods in June increased $0.1 billion or 0.5 percent to $22.7 billion. Shipments increased $0.8 billion or 4.0 percent to $19.5 billion. Unfilled orders increased $3.2 billion or 1.4 percent to $224.7 billion. Inventories decreased less than $0.1 billion or 0.1 percent to $28.2 billion. Revised May Data – Revised seasonally adjusted May figures for all manufacturing industries were: new orders, $658.6 billion (revised from $657.4 billion); shipments, $653.1 billion (revised from $653.2 billion); unfilled orders, $1,580.9 billion (revised from $1,579.5 billion) and total inventories, $962.0 billion (unchanged).
