Dr. Arno Vosk’s recent letter to the editor regarding U.S. Rep. Fred Keller, R-12, is as insulting as it is inaccurate.
It is ironic that Vosk seems interested in accomplishing only one thing: marginalizing the importance of natural gas development in our area and by extension, marginalizing the men, women and children whose livelihoods depend upon it.
Pennsylvania needs energy, and natural gas is critical to that. Never has that been more evident than in the past year. Natural gas liquids literally make the products Dr. Vosk and other physicians use every day to treat patients. From syringes to saline drips, to high-tech monitors, artificial organs, to vaccine development and deployment, natural gas liquids — produced here in Pennsylvania — are essential to literally saving lives.
Natural gas has also dramatically cleaned up Pennsylvania’s air, with key pollutants reduced nearly 90% over the past decade.
Thanks to power plants like Liberty and Patriot, and Sunbury’s Hummel station right in our own backyard, respiratory ailments and hospitalizations are down substantially thanks to natural gas electric generation. And because of natural gas, carbon emissions are down 39% in just the past decade — putting Pennsylvania far ahead of meeting the Paris Climate Agreement.
Dr. Vosk’s title infers that he is to be a trusted, reliable source of information for those who depend upon his services.
But belittling his neighbors, ignoring facts, and redirecting from science all to advance a political goal does little to justify this expectation.
