Bakken operators are getting a new opportunity to ship crude to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Energy Transfer LP has announced a call for shipper commitments for additional takeaway capacity on its Bakken Pipeline System.
The additional volume of takeaway capacity on the network of pipelines that connects Bakken and Three Forks operators to Illinois and Texas will be determined following the close of the open season call.
The system went into service in June 2017 and features roughly 2,000 miles of mainly 30-inch pipe that moves Bakken and Three Forks crude to a storage terminal in Patoka, Illinois, or to locations in Nederland, Texas.
Since completion of the system—which includes the Dakota Access Pipeline that drew a massive influx of protestors and environmental activists to North Dakota during its construction—operators in the Bakken have received major financial benefits. Many E&Ps say they have increased the price received per barrel by a range of $2 to $8 per barrel.
Energy Transfer did not provide a closing date to the open season call in its first announcement of the pipeline expansion.
