US line pipe prices rose to $2,536/short ton (st) in March, a $113/st increase from February and the highest price in more than a year. US tariffs on steel imports imposed in March supported domestic and import prices. The White House is set to reveal further tariffs tomorrow. Import prices rose by 5.2pc in March, with prices increases for seamless pipe outpacing ERW. Domestic line pipe prices rose by 4.2pc. All distributors had a positive price outlook in the coming months, keeping the price outlook index at 100. Domestic line pipe shipments rose by nearly 2,000st in February to 23,847st compared with January. Oil prices fell to $71.21/bl in February, a 5pc decrease from the prior month. Natural gas prices rose by 1pc to $3.74/mmbtu. Hot rolled coil prices rose by 18pc in February to $813/st. The average North American drilling rig count for February was up by eight at 590 compared to the prior month.
