(by Rye Druzin, www.pipe-logix.com) Tariffs drove US line pipe prices up this month, with higher import prices outpacing domestic price hikes. US line pipe prices rose in February to $2,423/short ton (st), a $109/st increase from January and the highest prices since February 2024. Tariffs drove import prices up by 5.6%, while domestic line pipe prices increased by 4.1%. The domestic all sizes ERW average price jumped by 8.2% to $1,952/st, while the all sizes seamless average price rose by 1.9% to $3,519/st. The import all sizes ERW average price rose by 12.2% to $1,587/st, while the imported seamless average pipe prices rose by 2% to $2,635/st. Distributor price outlook diffusion index rose by four points to 100. Domestic line pipe shipments fell by nearly 3,000st from December to 21,926st in January. Oil prices rose by $5.40/bbl in January compared to the prior month. Natural gas prices increased by 9%. Hot rolled coil prices rose by 2.4% in January and surged in February to $900/st. The average North American drilling rig count for January was down by six at 582 compared to the prior month.
