(by Rye Druzin, www.pipe-logix.com) US line pipe prices were flat this month at $2,243/short ton (st) in October, with import price increases outweighing domestic declines. The line pipe index increased by $1/st, the first increase since May 2022. Domestic prices declined by 0.6% and import prices rose by 0.9%. The domestic all sizes ERW average price fell by 0.8% to $1,753/st, while the all sizes seamless average price declined by 0.4% to $3,241/st. The import all sizes ERW average price fell by 1.8% to $1,373/st, while the imported seamless average pipe prices rose by 2.1% to 52,607/st. The distributor’s sentiment rose by three points this month to a higher neutral reading of 53. The import diffusion index dropped by 25 points from the prior month to a negative reading of 29, indicating that more distributors are seeing import volumes increase. Oil prices were down by 8% in September compared to the prior month, while natural gas prices dropped by 15%. HRC prices rose by 2.9% sequentially in September. The average North American drilling rig count for September was up by one at 587 compared to the prior month.
