The U.S. Census Bureau announces the June advance report on durable goods manufacturers’ shipments, inventories and orders: New Orders – New orders for manufactured durable goods in June increased $5.0 billion or 1.9 percent to $272.6 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This increase, up eight of the last nine months, followed a 0.8 percent May increase. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.3 percent. Excluding defense, new orders increased 0.4 percent. Transportation equipment, up three consecutive months, led the increase, $4.5 billion or 5.1 percent to $92.7 billion. Shipments – Shipments of manufactured durable goods in June, up thirteen of the last fourteen months, increased $0.7 billion or 0.3 percent to $269.6 billion. This followed a 1.5 percent May increase. Computers and electronic products, up seven of the last eight months, led the increase, $0.4 billion or 1.4 percent to $29.0 billion. Unfilled Orders – Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in June, up twenty-two consecutive months, increased $7.9 billion or 0.7 percent to $1,117.6 billion. This followed a 0.3 percent May increase. Transportation equipment, up sixteen of the last seventeen months, led the increase, $7.7 billion or 1.2 percent to $647.7 billion. Inventories – Inventories of manufactured durable goods in June, up seventeen consecutive months, increased $1.8 billion or 0.4 percent to $484.8 billion. This followed a 0.6 percent May increase. Machinery, up twenty consecutive months, led the increase, $0.7 billion or 0.9 percent to $83.1 billion. Capital Goods – Nondefense new orders for capital goods in June increased $0.1 billion or 0.1 percent to $84.2 billion. Shipments decreased $0.2 billion or 0.3 percent to $79.7 billion. Unfilled orders increased $4.5 billion or 0.7 percent to $628.6 billion. Inventories increased $0.9 billion or 0.4 percent to $211.9 billion. Defense new orders for capital goods in June decreased $0.4 billion or 2.7 percent to $13.2 billion. Shipments decreased $0.2 billion or 1.6 percent to $13.7 billion. Unfilled orders decreased $0.5 billion or 0.3 percent to $185.0 billion. Inventories increased $0.3 billion or 1.3 percent to $22.6 billion. Revised May Data – Revised seasonally adjusted May figures for all manufacturing industries were: new orders, $544.4 billion (revised from $543.4 billion); shipments, $545.7 billion (revised from $544.4 billion); unfilled orders, $1,109.7 billion (revised from $1,110.0 billion) and total inventories, $798.3 billion (revised from $797.9 billion).
