(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices jumped 7.3% in March with domestic prices up 6.9% and import prices up 7.9%. All products tracked by Pipe Logix were higher in March and seamless prices, in general, gained more than ERW prices. Current prices are 91% higher compared to prices a year ago. Distributor’s sentiment strengthened with the NASPD Index increasing to a score of 75 in March from 62 the previous month. All distributors expect near-term pricing to increase, giving the Price Expectations component of sentiment a score of 100. Domestic supply of line pipe is expected to have increased in February to 92,000 tons, on par with the trailing twelve-month average. The rig count continues slow growth each month while oil prices averaged $108/bbl in March and natural gas averaged $4.7/mmbtu. The details are in the report.
