(12-23-21) The U.S. Census Bureau announces the November advance report on durable goods manufacturers’ shipments, inventories and orders: New Orders – New orders for manufactured durable goods in November increased $6.5 billion or 2.5 percent to $268.3 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This increase, up six of the last seven months, followed a 0.1 percent October increase. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.8 percent. Excluding defense, new orders increased 2.0 percent. Transportation equipment, up following two consecutive monthly decreases, led the increase, $5.0 billion or 6.5 percent to $82.1 billion. Shipments – Shipments of manufactured durable goods in November, up six of the last seven months, increased $1.8 billion or 0.7 percent to $263.6 billion. This followed a 1.7 percent October increase. Transportation equipment, up two consecutive months, led the increase, $0.7 billion or 1.0 percent to $76.4 billion. Unfilled Orders – Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in November, up ten consecutive months, increased $8.9 billion or 0.7 percent to $1,259.9 billion. This followed a 0.3 percent October increase. Transportation equipment, up nine of the last ten months, led the increase, $5.7 billion or 0.7 percent to $831.2 billion. Inventories – Inventories of manufactured durable goods in November, up ten consecutive months, increased $2.9 billion or 0.6 percent to $469.6 billion. This followed a 0.7 percent October increase. Machinery, up thirteen consecutive months, led the increase, $1.0 billion or 1.3 percent to $77.4 billion. Capital Goods – Nondefense new orders for capital goods in November increased $3.4 billion or 4.0 percent to $88.6 billion. Shipments increased $0.2 billion or 0.3 percent to $81.1 billion. Unfilled orders increased $7.5 billion or 1.0 percent to $769.3 billion. Inventories increased $1.6 billion or 0.8 percent to $206.0 billion. Defense new orders for capital goods in November increased $1.9 billion or 16.0 percent to $14.0 billion. Shipments increased $0.1 billion or 0.9 percent to $12.6 billion. Unfilled orders increased $1.3 billion or 0.7 percent to $191.5 billion. Inventories increased less than $0.1 billion or 0.1 percent to $21.3 billion. Revised October Data – Revised seasonally adjusted October figures for all manufacturing industries were: new orders, $523.3 billion (revised from $522.1 billion); shipments, $523.4 billion (unchanged); unfilled orders, $1,250.9 billion (revised from $1,249.8 billion) and total inventories, $764.6 billion (revised from $764.2 billion).
