(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices were up 2.4% in December with domestic prices up 1.3% and import prices up 3.9%. Price increases for seamless items more than offset price declines for ERW items. Domestic prices increased 3.2% for seamless items compared to a 1.2% decrease ERW items. Import prices increased 7% for seamless items compared to a 0.6% decrease for ERW items. This marks the 15th month of price increases with a cumulative gain of 125% in the Pipe Logix index. Sentiment remains moderately bullish with the NASPD Index scoring 63 in December, up slightly from the previous month. While sentiment has softened regarding further price increases, it has improved for new orders. Reported import volumes are expected to have been 87,000 tons in November, on average with the previous two months and up dramatically from the start of the year. The rig count continues modest monthly gains with oil price averaging $70/bbl and natural gas at $3.8/mmbtu in December. The details are in the report.
