(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices gained 6.6% in April with domestic prices up 5.5% and import prices up 8.0%. Most of the items tracked in the Pipe Logix Index gained 5% or more in the month. This is the 7th consecutive month of price gains with a cumulative gain of 41% in the Pipe Logix Index that includes an 80% gain for domestic ERW prices. Sentiment remains strongly bullish with the NASPD Index scoring 79 in April, the fourth consecutive month of scores over 70. In particular, all distributors expect further price increases in the near-term. Shipments of line pipe are at low levels compared to the previous year with imports estimated to have been 52,000 tons in March. The rig count in April was up 74% from the low last summer and the DUC well count was down 20%. Oil prices were just over $60/bbl and natural gas priced at $2.6/mmbtu.
