(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices declined 0.9% in July with domestic prices down 0.7% and import prices down 1.2%. Interestingly, larger diameter domestic seamless items priced higher in July with seamless 12″-16″ up 3.3% and seamless 18″ -24″ up 4%. The increases are apparently related to limited new supply by domestic mills for these size ranges. The Pipe Logix Line Pipe Price Index averaged $1,355/ton in July, down 18% from a year ago. Distributor’s sentiment continues to show a contracting market with the NASPD Index at 32 in July, the 5th consecutive month of scores below 50. Reported line pipe supply is expected to have been 113,000 tons in June, which is 20% below the trailing average. However, the decrease in rig count has caused the ratio of supply per rig to spike to 410 tons/rig, a level last experienced in early 2019. The details are in the report.
