(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line pipe prices decreased 1.4% in September with domestic prices down 2.4% and import prices down 0.2%. The largest price decline was for small diameter, 2” and 3”, seamless domestic items, which were down nearly 10% and 6%, respectively. These same items had previously enjoyed superior price gains in 2017 and early 2018, making the current pricing closer to the “normal” level relative to other size items. Sentiment continues to trend lower with the NASPD Index at 47 in September, down from a high of 81 in February. The current index suggest the market environment is slightly negative, the first time the index has been below 50 since October 2017. Key market factors show import volumes were lower in August and the rig count has steadied near 1,050 active rigs.
