(by Kurt Minnich, www.pipe-logix.com) Line Pipe prices were up 2.7% in January with seamless prices continuing to realize significant gains (domestic SML +4.8%, import SML +6%) while ERW prices softened (domestic ERW -1.2%, import ERW -0.9%). The Pipe Logix Price Index has gained 97% during the trailing 12 months. Distributor sentiment remains bullish with the NASPD Index at a score of 65 in January, little changed from the previous month. The rig count averaged 601 in January, up 60% from a year ago. Oil price averaged $80/bbl and natural gas averaged $4.2/mmbtu in January, and while HRC prices have tumbled from their peak levels last year, HRC is still 2-times higher than the 2020 average price.
